The North Town Woods neighborhood has a long history of community-focused and family-friendly events sponsored by the Home Owner’s Association. These events, which occur throughout the year, are a fun way to get to know your neighbors, and to continue to build the comraderie that has always been a fixture of life in North Town Woods.
Unless otherwise noted, each event takes place at our popular picnic shelter in the central common area of the neighborhood. Our picnic shelter was recently named the “Lynn Long House,” in memory of long-time and much dedicated HOA board President Lynn Long, who passed in 2015. Within this beautiful picnic shelter are two wonderful picnic benches and a propane grill. This facility, which recently had power and lights added to it, is a popular gathering place for the neighborhood, and is also avaiable for private reserved parties.
Annual Events
April – Easter Egg Hunt
Kids and families gather at the Lynn Long House for an exciting Easter Egg Hunt planned by volunteers from the neighborhood. This event is a great opportunity to get outside and visit with neighbors after a long (and sometimes) wet winter.
June – Ice Cream Social
Kids gather in excitement at the Lynn Long House after their last day of school for the year. Ice Cream is provided by the HOA, as we kickoff another Bainbridge Island summer!
July – 4th of July Picnic & Games
Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned 4th of July? Bainbridge Island puts on a spectacular 3rd of July street party/dance and an exciting parade on the 4th. Afterwards, come back to the Lynn Long House for a neighborhood picnic. Hotdogs, Hamburgers, and drinks are supplied by the HOA, and the rest is a pot-luck style picnic with the neighbors. Each year, we have a variety of games for the kids (and adults!), followed by a messy but fun pie-eating contest. Afterwards, neighborhood kids are known to take to the street to light off some fireworks, but there is also a big display put on by the community over Eagle Harbor each year. It doesn’t get much better than the 4th of July in North Town Woods.
September – Chili Cookoff
This has consistently been one of the most popular events in North Town Woods. Our neighborhood just wouldn’t be the same without it. Each year, several neighbors cook up their best chili, and go head to head against their opponents. Entires range from sweet to spicy, and get more and more creative with each passing year. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, but even if you don’t win you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic time with friends.
October – Pumpkin Walk (neighborhood wide)
If you haven’t yet heard, North Town Woods is a wildly popular Halloween destination for Trick-or-Treater’s. In past years, we’ve been known to get well over 600 costumed kids. We welcome this island tradition with open arms, and many of the neighbors get into the spirit of this fun Holiday. The Pumpkin Walk, which takes place on the weekend before Halloween, is a great way to get together with your neighbors before the crowds descend upon North Town Woods. Throughout the neighborhood, volunteers set out treats for anyone who wants to seek out a little friendly conversation with fellow neighbors. As you walk around the neighborhood, don’t forget to admire the finely carved pumpkins and brightly lit houses. There’s even a prize for the most creatively designed pumpkins.
December – Annual Membership Meeting
This is the meeting where we come together each year to learn about all of the happenings in North Town Woods from the HOA Board. We also elect new & continuing board members each year, and vote on our annual budget and HOA dues.
